The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ebi Bright, has received women from the Tema Traditional Area who paid a fraternal courtesy call on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) as part of activities marking the annual Homowo Festival.
The women, who were in a jubilant Homowo mood, converged at the premises of the Assembly to observe the traditional Soobii rites, a significant cultural practice that symbolises the return of indigenes of Tema who live and work outside the traditional area to reunite with their families and compatriots for the celebration of Homowo.
The colourful gathering was characterised by traditional music, dancing and expressions of solidarity, creating a festive atmosphere at the TMA.
Hon. Ebi Bright, together with members of the Assembly’s management, joined the celebrants on the dance floor, demonstrating their support for the preservation and promotion of Tema’s rich cultural heritage.
The Soobii tradition provides an opportunity for indigenes to reconnect with their roots, strengthen family and community bonds, and participate in the cultural activities associated with Homowo.
The Mayor’s participation in the celebration further underscored the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities and the people of Tema to promote the area’s cultural identity and heritage.
The Homowo Festival remains an important annual celebration for the Ga people, bringing families and communities together to commemorate their heritage, celebrate resilience and strengthen bonds of unity.
