The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) is hosting the State of Journalism, Media and Communication Conference (SJMCC 2026) on July 15 and 16, 2026. The fully virtual international academic conference is held on the theme, “Navigating the Future of Journalism, Media and Communication.”

The conference brings together scholars, media practitioners, policymakers, and students to examine the evolving landscape of journalism, media systems, and communication practices in a rapidly changing global environment.
The two-day event features keynote addresses, panel discussions, and parallel paper presentations across 12 thematic tracks, covering areas including Artificial Intelligence and the Media, fact-checking, misinformation and disinformation, media ownership, science and environmental journalism, investigative journalism, and other emerging issues.
The conference is expected to attract participants from across Africa and beyond, further strengthening UniMAC’s position as a leading centre for media and communication scholarship on the continent.
