She writes
”At the entrance of my office hangs a powerful collage—nine remarkable women whose lives and legacies continue to shape law, governance, academia, diplomacy, and public service. Every day, it reminds me that progress is never accidental. The rights and opportunities women enjoy today were earned through courage, sacrifice, and persistence by those who dared to go first”.
From pioneers who broke barriers in classrooms and courtrooms to trailblazers who reshaped institutions, we stand on foundations already laid. Their stories remind us that we do not begin from emptiness—we inherit a legacy and carry forward a torch already lit for the next generation.
She continues to posit
”Ghana’s legal history is rich with extraordinary women whose contributions have redefined justice and expanded opportunity. Today, women are making undeniable strides at the Bar and on the Bench, playing critical roles in national development and shaping the future of our legal system”.
In her view,
”Yet, even as we celebrate progress, we must confront difficult realities. The recent Joana Quaye v. Richard Nii Armah Quaye case has sparked concern, particularly around the tone and reasoning in addressing alimony and women’s rights. It serves as a reminder that beyond legal outcomes, the language of justice matters—and must reflect dignity, fairness, and respect for all, especially women”.
Nana Oye believes,
”This moment calls for a more consistent, progressive, and gender-sensitive approach in our jurisprudence—one that recognises both financial and non-financial contributions within marriage. True justice must evolve with society and protect the rights and humanity of every individual”.
She says,
”As we honour our trailblazers, let us commit to lifting others as we rise. If you are in the room, bring another woman in. To every young girl: the robe fits you, the courtroom awaits you, and the nation needs you”.
