2025 Women’s Dialogue: Ghana’s Vice President reaffirms commitment to Gender Equality

Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing gender equality, calling for concrete actions to uplift women and girls across all sectors of society. Speaking at this year’s International Women’s Day celebration in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the importance of inclusive and sustained efforts to promote women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and access to education. She underscored the critical need to address gender-based violence, Reproductive Health Rights, and legal protections for women.

The 2025 Women’s Dialogue was held under the theme: “Resetting the Agenda for Women: Accelerating Action on Women’s Rights, Equity, and Empowerment’’, Highlighting the global theme for the International Women’s Day celebrations. The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ghana. Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed her commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders, particularly women, in promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights. She called for urgent action on the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 and urged traditional leaders, especially Queen mothers, to continue advocacy on the welfare of women and girls in their communities.

The UNICEF Deputy Representative for Operations, Annie Kariuki, highlighted the need for renewed commitment and strategic investments in girls to help them to reach their full potential.

The 2025 Women’s Dialogue was held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, and attended by dignitaries, policymakers, traditional leaders, and gender advocates, all united in strengthening Ghana’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
