Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries meet in Accra over yields

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister noted that palm oil remains one of the major commodities of Ghana and stated that modernisation of agricultural practices would improve yield in the palm plantation sector, provide employment and could eventually become a major cash crop like cocoa. He expressed the need for Ghana to strengthen its cooperation with CPOPC.

The Secretary-General on her part highlighted the mandate of CPOPC in promoting the collective interest of palm oil producing countries, including advocacy on sustainability issues, engagement with global institutions and protection of small holder farmers. She noted that Ghana had been an observer of CPOPC since 2020. Based on the experience of Malaysia and Indonesia, she mentioned that palm oil contributes significantly to GDP, creates employment and improve rural livelihoods.
Present at the meeting were the Ambassador of Ghana to Malaysia, Mrs. Florence Akonor, officials from CPOPC and Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting concluded with assurances from both sides for continuous collaboration to strengthen the sector.
